Supertram Renewal Works at the Delta Junction, near Fitazlan Square
Major changes to tram services during August
Dates:
Saturday 8 to Monday 31 August 2026
Significant works will be carried out on the Supertram network this August which will affect all tram services. During this time, we will be renewing the main tram junction – known as the Delta junction, above Park Square roundabout in Sheffield city centre. Works will include – replacing worn track, points, signalling equipment and pedestrian crossings. The Delta junction is of vital importance to the network and is used by all tram services – over 440 trams run over it each day – and after 32 years of operation the junction is in need of renewal. Once complete, this £3.5m project will improve the ride quality and ensure the junction is fit for another 30 years of operations.
We will also be replacing the track where it crosses Bernard Road near Hyde Park tram stop. By planning these works together, we reduce the need for further closures in the future.
We appreciate the disruption this will cause and thank customers for their patience whilst we complete this essential work. We advise customers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, particularly if this involves changing between trams and buses. Service changes during the works
- Blue route: Will operate as two separate services, running between:
- Malin Bridge and Cathedral
- Halfway and Sheffield Station.
- Services will run at a daytime frequency of every 15 minutes, with an evening frequency of every 30 minutes.
- Purple route: Will serve Sheffield Station to Herdings Park.
- Services will run at a 60 minute frequency all day.
- Yellow route: Will operate as two separate services, running between:
- Middlewood and Cathedral
- Meadowhall and Woodbourn Road.
- Services will run at a daytime frequency of every 15 minutes, with an evening frequency of every 30 minutes.
- Tram Train route: Will serve Woodbourn Road to Parkgate.
- Services will run at approximately every 30 minutes all day.
Tram replacement buses will run as follows:
- BP1: Will operate between Cathedral and Granville Road
- YE1 and TT1: Will operate between Cathedral and Woodbourn Road
Alternatively, signed walking routes will be available between Cathedral and Sheffield Station and other stops within the city centre.
Tram services are expected to resume across the network to their usual routes and timetables on Tuesday 1 September.

Blue route services
From Saturday 8 August to Sunday 31 August inclusive, Blue Route services will operate as two separate services, running between:
- Malin Bridge and Cathedral.
- Sheffield Station and Halfway.
Supertram replacement bus service BP1 will connect to tram services at Cathedral and Granville Road, serving Fitzalan Square and Castle Square tram stops. Alternatively, customers can catch the free Sheffield Connect services within the city centre, and a signed walking route will be in place between Cathedral and Sheffield Station.
Purple route services
From Saturday 8 August to Sunday 31 August inclusive, Purple Route services will run between:
- Sheffield Station and Herdings Park.

Yellow route services
From Saturday 8 August to Sunday 31 August inclusive, Yellow Route services will operate as two separate services, running between:
- Middlewood and Cathedral.
- Woodbourn Road and Meadowhall.
Supertram replacement bus service YE1 will connect to tram services at Cathedral and Woodbourn Road, serving Hyde Park, Cricket Inn Road and Nunnery Square tram stops.
Tram Train route services
From Saturday 8 August to Sunday 31 August inclusive, Tram Train Route services will run between:
- Woodbourn Road and Parkgate.
Supertram replacement bus service TT1 will connect to tram services at Cathedral and Woodbourn Road, serving Hyde Park, Cricket Inn Road and Nunnery Square tram stops.

Replacement bus service
BP1, YE1 & TT1 Bus
Replacement bus services BP1, and YE1/TT1 will provide a frequent and reliable connection to tram services, operating between Cathedral to Granville Road and Woodbourn Road
- Track your replacement bus: Use TSY Live Departures to see the location of your next replacement bus on a real-time map.
- Limited stop service: Buses only stop at specific bus stops which are located near to affected tram stops.
- Travel with your tram ticket: Show any valid tram ticket purchased in advance using the TSY Mobile App or from a tram conductor. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.
Speed up your journey by having your ticket ready to show the driver. You can also purchase a ticket using contactless card or cash when you board, just ask for a ticket like you would do from a tram conductor.
Bus only tickets are not accepted by the replacement bus service.

Bus and Tram stop informationThe renewal works taking place near Fitzalan Square on Saturday 8 to Monday 31 August inclusive will prevent trams from being able to serve the following stops:
- Castle Square
- Fitzalan Square
- Hyde Park
- Cricket Inn Road
- Nunnery Square
The majority of the Supertram network will remain open. Information about affected tram stops, replacement bus stop locations, and bus stop facilities and accessibility, is available in the sections below.

Tram replacement bus stops will be marked and have information provided where possible. Use the maps in the sections below to plan ahead and find the location of your replacement bus stop.
These renewal works will affect some roads and footpaths.
Walking
Some pedestrian crossings over the tram tracks above Park Square Roundabout will be closed while works take place. Access will be maintained via clearly signposted diversion routes using alternative crossings.

Local buses
No other local bus services are expected be affected by these works, however localised traffic congestion may cause delays to nearby services.

Roads
Bernard Road is expected to be closed Monday 24, Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 of August.

Park and Ride
All Travel South Yorkshire Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works, offering free parking as usual.

- Hyde Park to Cricket Inn Road: 6 minutes (485 meters)
- Cricket Inn Road to Nunnery Square: 15 minutes (0.7 miles)
- Nunnery Square to Woodbourn Road: 11 minutes (966 meters)
- Fitzalan Square to Sheffield Station: 10 minutes (805 meters)
- Sheffield Station to Granville Road: 5 minutes (322 meters)
