Supertram Network Improvements

Find out more about upcoming improvement and maintenance works taking place across the Supertram network

In March 2024, South Yorkshire Supertram came back under public control after 27 years, as an initial step in our mission to build an integrated transport network.

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is investing millions of pounds across the network as part of an ambitious improvement plan to extend the lifespan of one the region’s best loved modes of transport. These works will ensure trams can continue to run safely, reduce the risk of unplanned closure on the network and give passengers a better travel experience.

We appreciate this can cause disruption for some customers and will make every effort to keep you informed and implement measures to minimise disruption as much as possible. This page contains information about works which affect tram services, and other works which don't affect tram services but may cause noise or disruption to roads.

How we're minimising disruption

We're working hard to keep you moving and minimise any temporary disruption arising from network improvement works. By incorporating your feedback, we're ensuring that plenty of information is available, and where necessary a Supertram replacement bus service will operate.

Keeping the tram network moving
We're making every effort to keep as much of the tram network in operation as possible during improvement works. This could mean that certain areas of the network have separate tram services, connected by a convenient Supertram replacement bus service.
Supertram replacement bus services
Wherever possible and necessary we'll provide a replacement bus service. Bus services will be timetabled to be as fast and co-ordinated as possible with tram services. You'll be able to travel on replacement bus services with any valid Supertram ticket.
Timetables and Journey Planners
Timetable information for tram and replacement bus services will be provided in full online, and details will also be provided at tram and bus stops. Whenever possible we'll also ensure our journey planner is updated with amended service information.
Information at the tram stop and bus stop
We want to make it as easy as possible to keep travelling during any improvement works, so affected tram stops will have printed information displayed, including service frequency, maps and replacement bus information. Bus stops will also have printed information available.
Accessibility
We're working hard to support all travellers. Audio announcements will be available on trams when possible and our webpages will have comprehensive information to help you plan. You can also call Traveline, visit an interchange, or speak to a conductor for further support.
Listening to your feedback
Your feedback on how improvement works affect you is really improtant to us, so that we can continually improve our service and minimise disruption. To share your views, feedback and suggestions, please contact us.
