Magna Tram Train Station Project

The new station and Park and Ride are due to open this winter

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is investing more than £9 million on a new Tram Train station and Park and Ride at Magna, Rotherham.

The new station on the Tram Train route will provide connection to the Magna Science Adventure Centre, local businesses and the wider Templeborough area.

100 park and ride spaces will also be made available, along with cycle parking and electric vehicle charging, helping to reduce congestion and pollution within the Lower Don Valley and A6178 corridor.

To enable construction work to be completed safely, there will be temporary changes to some Tram Train services on Saturday evenings, from Saturday 29 March until winter 2025.

View more information about the project on the SYMCA website

These works form part of a multi-million-pound investment in your Supertram network. View more information about how we’re improving your network on our Supertram Network Improvements page.

Affect on local transport

Construction of the new station and Park and Ride at Magna takes place on private land away from main roads, so there will be no affect on local buses. Vehicles and materials required for the construction work will need to use the local road network, and in some cases may result in a small increase in noise and dust. Efforts will be made to avoid busier times to reduce the impact on other road users.

Bus service iconParkgate Park and Ride

Parkgate Park and Ride will remain open as normal throughout these works, but it may be more convenient to consider an alternative Park and Ride site.

TT1 bus and Tram Train services have been timetabled to coordinate as much as possible, but journeys between Parkgate and Meadowhall South may be 5-10 minutes longer and affected by traffic.

Performance of the TT1 bus service will be monitored and the timetable adjusted if necessary to improve journey times and performance.
