Supertram renewal works at Middlewood

Essential works to improve your Supertram network will take place from Sunday 17 to Friday 29 August inclusive (13 days).
We'll complete track renewal works on Middlewood Road, helping to enhance your journey and ensure continued reliability of our services.
Normal service is expected to resume on Saturday 30 August.
While these works are taking place, we'll also be completing work to replace the clear plastic panels of many tram stop poster cases, which will make it easier to view printed information.

Yellow route
- Trams operate between Meadowhall Interchange and Hillsborough Interchange as normal, then divert to Malin Bridge
- Services operate at a normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes
- Replacement bus service YE1 will replace tram services between Hillsborough Interchange and Middlewood

YE1 Bus
Replacement bus service YE1 will provide a frequent and reliable connection to tram services, operating between Hillsborough Interchange and Middlewood.

- Track your replacement bus: Use TSY Live Departures to see the location of your next replacement bus on a real-time map.
- Timetabled to connect with trams: Services operate up to every 12 minutes, and are synced with tram service frequency throughout the day.
- Express service: This bus only stops at specific bus stops which are located near to affected tram stops.
- Travel with your tram ticket: Show any valid tram ticket purchased in advance using the TSY Mobile App or from a tram conductor. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.
Speed up your journey by having your ticket ready to show the driver. You can also purchase a ticket using contactless card or cash when you board, just ask for a ticket like you would do from a tram conductor.
Bus only tickets are not accepted by the replacement bus service.

Tram services in this area are expected to resume on Saturday 30 August.
The renewal works taking place on Middlewood Road (near Middlewood tram stop) will prevent trams from being able to serve stops from Hillsborough Park to Middlewood. The vast majority of the Supertram network will operate as normal.
Change between tram and bus services at Hillsborough Interchange.
Tram replacement bus stops will be marked and have information provided where possible. Use the maps in the sections below to plan ahead and find the location of your replacement bus stop.

Changes to local transport
These renewal works will affect some roads and footpaths, but disruption is expected to be minimal for most people.

Walking
Our works are not expected to affect pedestrians. All footpaths and crossings around the worksite at Middlewood Road will be open as normal.

Local buses
Local bus services will be diverted due the works taking place on Middlewood Road.
- Service 57 (Stagecoach): This service will be diverted due to a 1-way road closure on Middlewood Road. We're awaiting confirmation from the operator about their diversion route, and will add it here as soon as it's available.
No other local bus services are expected be affected by these works.

Roads
Road users will be affected by traffic management measures on Middlewood Road, which are needed to ensure the works can be completed safely. Please follow the signed diversion route.
During the 13 day works, the total area affected is from Middlewood Road's junction with Harris Road (near the entrance to the Sheffield Wednesday training ground), to the junction with Hillsborough Grove.
The side of the road towards Hillsborough will be closed. Traffic will only be able to travel in one direction (away from Hillsborough), with traffic towards Hillsborough diverted via Langsett Avenue, Worrall Road and Wadsley Lane.
There will be 3 phases to these works, with different specific road closures in place, to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses as much as possible. Further detail is provided in the following sections.
We're also working with Sheffield City Council to enable road resurfacing works on Infirmary Road and Langsett Road. These works will take place between the hours of 01:00 and 04:30 on the following days:
- Wednesday 27 August
- Thursday 28 August
- Friday 29 August
Further information will be provided to residents by Amey on behalf of Sheffield City Council. Diversions and road closures will be in place, please follow the signed diversion route. An interactive map of roadworks is available on the Sheffield City Council website.

Park and Ride
All Travel South Yorkshire Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works, offering free parking as usual.
Access to Middlewood Park and Ride will be maintained throughout the works, but you will need to follow a diversion route if exiting the Park and Ride and travelling towards Hillsborough. It may be more convenient to use Malin Bridge Park and Ride. For further information about road closures and diversions, check changes to local transport.

Walking, Wheeling and Cycling
It may be quicker and more convenient to walk, wheel or cycle part of your journey to connect to services at a different stop.
Free cycle parking is available at both Malin Bridge and Middlewood Park and Ride, and at Hillsborough Interchange.
Approximate walking times between affected tram stops:
- Hillsborough Interchange to Hillsborough Park: 6 minutes (350 metres)
- Hillsborough Park to Leppings Lane: 9 minutes (600 metres)
- Leppings Lane to Middlewood: 12 minutes (800 metres)

It should be noted that during these works, Supertram tickets will not be accepted on local bus services, only the Supertram replacement bus.

Letters have been sent to local residents and businesses notifying them in advance of these works. Contact details for our contractor VolkerRail have been provided.
Unfortunately these works will generate noise, and our contractor will be working 24 hours a day. VolkerRail will endeavour to reduce noise as much as possible.
