South Yorkshire's Supertram - About Us
On 22 March 2024 South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) took over ownership of Supertram, through an arm’s length subsidiary, South Yorkshire Future Trams Limited (SYFTL).
The creation of the new operating company will enable the development of Supertram’s strategy and operations in line with the broader transport needs across the region, whilst still running the company as an independent organisation.
Bringing Supertram back into public hands is an exciting step on our journey to achieving those goals. It will help us to develop a long-term integrated approach that fits with our wider plans for buses, rail, walking and cycling across South Yorkshire. It’s all about building a better system for our region.

Our services
Supertram operates a tram and tram-train network serving Sheffield and Rotherham in South Yorkshire. With four routes, Blue, Yellow, Purple and Tram Train, we provide frequent services that connect people to work, education, shopping, events and local communities.
Our Park & Ride sites offer free parking, helping customers save on travel costs while reducing congestion and carbon emissions. Powered by electric trams, Supertram offers a reliable, great-value and environmentally friendly way to travel.
Our history
Fitzalan Square to Meadowhall Fitzalan Square to Spring Lane Spring Lane to Gleadless Townend Fitzalan Square to Cathedral Cathedral to Shalesmoor Gleadless Townend to Halfway Gleadless Townend to Herdings Park Shalesmoor to Middlewood/Malin Bridge Tinsley/Meadowhall South to Parkgate (tram-train) Magna Tram Train station to open on the Tram Train route, with a Park & Ride site providing 100 car parking spaces, cycle parking and electric vehicle charging.
