Rail replacement works will be carried out near the above location during this period to maintain the safety and reliability of the Supertram network.

Service changes during the works

  • Blue route: Part‑suspended between Drake House Lane/Beighton and Halfway
  • Purple route: operating as normal
  • Yellow route: operating as normal
  • Tram Train route: operating as normal

Essential works to improve your Supertram network will take place near Waterthorpe tram stop (Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 June inclusive).

During this time, Blue route services will operate between Malin Bridge and Drake House Lane/Beighton. 

Supertram replacement bus service BL1 will operate between Crystal Peaks and Halfway.

These works won’t affect other tram routes, with Purple route, Yellow route and Tram Train services operating as normal.

Blue route tram services are expected to return to their normal route and timetable from Monday 29 June.

Blue route services

From Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 June inclusive, Blue route services will operate between Malin Bridge and Drake House Lane (Beighton) only, at a normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes.

Supertram replacement bus service BL1 will connect to tram services at Crystal Peaks, and will serve affected stops between Crystal Peaks and Halfway.

BL1 Bus

Supertram replacement bus service

Replacement bus service BL1 will provide a frequent and reliable connection to tram services, operating between Crystal Peaks and Halfway.

  • Track your replacement bus: Use TSY Live Departures to see the location of your next replacement bus on a real-time map.
  • Timetabled to connect with trams: Services operate up to every 12 minutes, and are synced with tram service frequency throughout the day.
  • Express service: Buses only stop at specific bus stops which are located near to affected tram stops.
  • Travel with your tram ticket: Show any valid tram ticket purchased in advance using the TSY Mobile App or from a tram conductor. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.

Speed up your journey by having your ticket ready to show the driver. You can also purchase a ticket using contactless card or cash when you board, just ask for a ticket like you would do from a tram conductor.

Bus only tickets are not accepted by the replacement bus service.

Free travel is available National Armed Forces Day (Saturday 27 June) on Supertram services and the BL1 replacement bus service. This offer is for serving Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with valid military ID, veterans with a Veterans’ Badge, veterans’ ID card, or wearing medals and cadets in uniform attending Armed Forces Day events.

The renewal works taking place near Waterthorpe from Saturday 27 to Sunday 28 June inclusive will prevent trams from being able to serve the following stops:

  • Waterthorpe
  • Westfield
  • Halfway

Due to renewal works near Waterthorpe, local bus services are subject to diversion.

Services affected:

  • Service 30, 30A, 120K, X30 to divert via:
    • Owlthorpe Greenway
    • Holbrook Avenue
    • Eckington Way

Waterthorpe

To allow our teams to work safely, Owlthorpe Greenway will be closed at the junction with Eckington Way and the tram tracks.

Anticipated dates of this closure are 27 to 28 June.

Park and Ride

All Travel South Yorkshire Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works, offering free parking as usual.

Walking, wheeling and cycling
It may be quicker and more convenient to walk, wheel or cycle part of your journey to connect to services at a different stop.

Free cycle parking is available at Halfway Park and Ride, and for customers of Crystal Peaks shopping centre there is also cycle parking available. In addition there is free cycle parking at Sheffield Interchange.

Approximate walking times between nearby and affected tram stops:

  • Crystal Peaks Interchange to Drake House Lane: 9 minutes (700 metres)
  • Drake House Lane to Waterthorpe: 11 minutes (750 metres)
  • Waterthorpe to Westfield: 8 minutes (650 metres)
  • Westfield to Halfway: 6 minutes (400 metres)

Unfortunately these works will generate noise, and our contractor will be working 24 hours a day. VolkerRail will endeavour to reduce noise as much as possible.
