Supertram network improvements to be completed over Bank Holiday weekend

Further investment work to improve the Supertram network will be taking place in Attercliffe over the May Day Bank Holiday Weekend. These essential works will replace worn rails as part of an on-going investment programme to enhance the network.

The works will take place on Staniforth Road, in the Attercliffe area from Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May.

Preparatory works will also be taking place overnight in the area from Monday 27 April.

Melanie Corcoran, SYMCA’s Executive Director of Transport, said: “By scheduling works over the Bank Holiday weekend when the tram network has lower passenger numbers, we hope to minimise passenger and traffic disruption and keep people moving.

“The rail replacement on Staniforth Road is the second set of works this year after the successful completion of rail replacement and concrete track slab repairs at Manor Top, City Road, Hollinsend and Spring Lane over the Easter holidays.

“By investing in the Supertram system, we’re increasing the longevity of the region’s tram network and ensuring the safe operation of this popular service for the millions of people who use it every year.”

Changes to Tram Services from Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May

To allow the essential engineering works to take place, tram services will be subject to alteration from Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May inclusive.

    • Services will not be able to operate between Cricket Inn Road and Meadowhall

Alternative travel options

Dedicated tram replacement bus services, TT1 and YE1, will operate to help people make their journeys between Saturday 2 May and Monday 4 May inclusive.

  • The YE1 service will run between Fitzalan Square, in the city centre, and Meadowhall.

These replacement bus services are timetabled to tie into tram services in the city centre.

All valid tram and multi-modal tickets will be accepted for travel on the TT1 and YE1 replacement bus services. Customers can buy their ticket in advance using the TSY Mobile app, or from a tram conductor. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the TT1 and YE1 bus drivers using contactless card or cash payments when boarding.
