Supertram network improvement works near Attercliffe 

From Saturday 2 to Monday 4 May works will involve replacing the rails and concrete track slab where the tram tracks cross Staniforth Road.

The Yellow route will be unable to run between Cricket Inn Road and Meadowhall. The Tram Train route will be suspended. 

Local bus services in the area will also be affected by the road closure. 

Normal service resumes on Tuesday 5 May.

Essential works to improve your Supertram network will take place from Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May inclusive (3 days).

We'll complete track renewal works on Staniforth Road (near Attercliffe tram stop), helping to make your journey smoother and ensure continued reliability of our services.

Travel during these works

Yellow route

On Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May the Yellow route will operate between Middlewood and Cricket Inn Road only. Services to Meadowhall will be replaced by tram replacement bus YE1.

  • Trams operate between Middlewood and Cricket Inn Road
  • Services operate at a normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes.
  • Replacement bus service YE1 will replace tram services in the affected area.

Tram Train route

The Tram Train route will be suspended during these works.

  • Replacement bus service TT1 will replace tram services between Fitzalan Square and Rotherham Parkgate.
  • This includes the new Magna tram stop.

YE1 and TT1 Bus

Supertram Replacement Bus Service

Replacement bus services YE1 and TT1 will provide a frequent and reliable connection to tram services, operating between Fitzalan Square, Meadowhall and Rotherham Parkgate.

  • Track your replacement bus: Use TSY Live Departures to see the location of your next replacement bus on a real-time map.
  • Timetabled to connect with trams: Services operate up to every 12 minutes, and are synced with tram service frequency throughout the day.
  • Express service: Buses only stop at specific bus stops which are located near to affected tram stops.
  • Travel with your tram ticket: Show any valid tram ticket purchased in advance using the TSY Mobile App or from a tram conductor. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.

Speed up your journey by having your ticket ready to show the driver. You can also purchase a ticket using contactless card or cash when you board, just ask for a ticket like you would do from a tram conductor.

Bus only tickets are not accepted by the replacement bus service.

The renewal works taking place on Staniforth Road (near Attercliffe tram stop) mean that buses will replace trams at the following stops:

Changes to local transport

These renewal works will affect some roads and footpaths, but disruption is expected to be minimal for most people.

Local buses

Due to the road closure on Staniforth Road, local bus services are subject to diversion.

Services affected:

Service 9, 9A towards Sheffield Interchange to divert via Darnall Road, Worksop Road, Newhall Road and Brightside Lane.

Service 9 towards Littledale and Service 9a towards Manor Top are not affected.

Services 52, 52a towards Woodhouse to divert via Attercliffe Common, Broughton Lane, Greenland Road, resuming normal route on Main Road.

Services 52, 52A towards Hillsborough to divert via Greenland Road, Broughton Lane, Attercliffe Common, Newhall Road, Brightside Lane, resuming normal route on Savile Street.

Road users will be affected by traffic management measures on Staniforth Road, which are needed to ensure the works can be completed safely. Please follow the signed diversion route.

Other travel options

Park and Ride

All Travel South Yorkshire Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works, offering free parking as usual. You may wish to consider alternatives to Nunnery Square, Valley Centertainment, Carbrook / IKEA, Meadowhall, Magna, Parkgate Park and Ride during these works.

It may be quicker and more convenient to walk, wheel or cycle part of your journey to connect to services at a different stop.

It should be noted that during these works, Supertram tickets will not be accepted on local bus services, only the Supertram replacement bus.

Letters have been sent to local residents and businesses notifying them in advance of these works. Contact details for our contractor VolkerRail have been provided.

Unfortunately these works will generate noise, and our contractor will be working 24 hours a day. VolkerRail will endeavour to reduce noise as much as possible.
