Supertram Renewal Works.
Gleadless Townend, Donetsk Way & Westfield tram stops.

Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May 2026
Essential renewal works will be carried out at the above tram stops during this period to maintain the safety and reliability of the Supertram network.
Service Changes During the Works
- Blue route: part‑suspended between Gleadless Townend and Halfway
- Purple route: suspended
- Yellow and Tram Train routes: operating as normal
Local bus services in the area will be affected due to associated road closures.

Essential works to improve your Supertram network will take place at Gleadless Townend, Donetsk Way and Westfield tram stops (Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May inclusive).
During this time, Blue route services will operate between Malin Bridge and Gleadless Townend.
The Purple route will be suspended.
Supertram replacement bus service BL1 will operate between Hollinsend and Halfway.
These works won’t affect other tram routes, with Yellow route and Tram Train services operating as normal.
Tram services in this area are expected to resume on Monday 1 June.

Blue route services
From Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May inclusive, Blue route services will operate between Malin Bridge and Gleadless Townend only, at a normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes.
Supertram replacement bus service BL1 will connect to tram services at Hollinsend, and will serve affected stops between Hollinsend and Halfway.

The Purple route will be suspended during these works.
Most tram stops on the Purple route will be served by the Blue route tram.
For journeys to Herdings/Leighton Road or Herdings Park, valid Supertram tickets will be accepted on First Bus services 18 / 18a / 47 / 48
BL1 Bus
Replacement bus services BL1 will provide a frequent and reliable connection to tram services, operating between Hollinsend and Halfway.
- Track your replacement bus: Use TSY Live Departures to see the location of your next replacement bus on a real-time map.
- Timetabled to connect with trams: Services operate up to every 12 minutes, and are synced with tram service frequency throughout the day.
- Express service: Buses only stop at specific bus stops which are located near to affected tram stops.
- Travel with your tram ticket: Show any valid tram ticket purchased in advance using the TSY Mobile App or from a tram conductor. Tickets can also be purchased from the bus driver.
Speed up your journey by having your ticket ready to show the driver. You can also purchase a ticket using contactless card or cash when you board, just ask for a ticket like you would do from a tram conductor.
Bus only tickets are not accepted by the replacement bus service.

The renewal works taking place at Gleadless Townend, Donestk Way and Westfield from Saturday 23 to Sunday 31 May inclusive will prevent trams from being able to serve the following stops:
- Herdings/Leighton Road
- Herdings Park
- White Lane
- Birley Lane
- Birley Moor Road
- Hackenthorpe
- Donetsk Way
- Moss Way
- Crystal Peaks Interchange
- Drake House Lane (Beighton)
- Waterthorpe
- Westfield
- Halfway
The majority of the Supertram network will remain open. Information about affected tram stops, replacement bus stop locations, and bus stop facilities and accessibility, is available in the sections below.
Tram replacement bus stops will be marked and have information provided where possible. Use the maps in the sections below to plan ahead and find the location of your replacement bus stop.
These renewal works will affect some roads and footpaths.
Walking
Footpath closures are expected to be required for these works.
Local buses
Due to the road closure at Gleadless Townend, local bus services are subject to diversion.
Services affected:
First Bus
Services 18 and 18a towards Sheffield will divert via Ridgeway Road, Gleadless Road, to serve a temporary stop on the slip road between Gleadless Road to White Lane, White Lane and Ridgeway Road.
Services 18 and 18a towards Hillsborough is unaffected
Service 51 towards Lodge Moor will divert via Charnock Hall Road, White Lane, Lister Avenue, Jaunty Avenue, Jaunty Lane and Hollinsend Road.
Service 51 towards Charnock is unaffected
TM Travel
Service 252 towards Sheffield to divert via Norton Avenue, Leighton Road to resume normal service at the junction with Gleadless Road
Service 252 towards Crystal Peaks in unaffected
Roads
Road users will be affected by traffic management measures at Gleadless Townend, which are needed to ensure the works can be completed safely. Please follow the signed diversion route.

Park and Ride
All Travel South Yorkshire Park and Ride sites will remain open during these works, offering free parking as usual.

Walking, Wheeling and Cycling
It may be quicker and more convenient to walk, wheel or cycle part of your journey to connect to services at a different stop.
Free cycle parking is available at Halfway Park and Ride, and for customers of Crystal Peaks shopping centre there is also cycle parking available. In addition there is free cycle parking at Sheffield Interchange.

- Hollinsend to Gleadless Townend: 12 minutes (750 metres)
- Gleadless Townend to White Lane: 8 minutes (600 metres)
- Gleadless Townend to Herdings/Leighton Road: 9 minutes (650 metres)
- Herdings/Leighton Road to Herdings Park: 8 minutes (600 metres)
- White Lane to Birley Lane: 21 minutes (1,500 metres)
- Birley Lane to Birley Moor Road: 10 minutes (800 metres)
- Birley Moor Road to Hackenthorpe: 7 minutes (550 metres)
- Hackenthorpe to Donetsk Way: 10 minutes (800 metres)
- Donetsk Way to Moss Way: 8 minutes (600 metres)
- Moss Way to Crystal Peaks Interchange: 5 minutes (450 metres)
- Crystal Peaks Interchange to Drake House Lane: 9 minutes (700 metres)
- Drake House Lane to Waterthorpe: 11 minutes (750 metres)
- Waterthorpe to Westfield: 8 minutes (650 metres)
- Westfield to Halfway: 6 minutes (400 metres)

It should be noted that during these works, Supertram tickets will only be accepted on First Bus services 47 and 48 between Sheffield city centre and Herdings Park. Supertram tickets will not be accepted on any other local bus services.
