Travel update: Hot weather this week
Friday 14 August update:
All tram and temporary bus replacement services are operating as usual.
Temperatures have now cooled following the extreme heat, and we’re not expecting any further heat-related issues for the network. Services are expected to continue operating as normal.

Thursday 13 August update:
All tram and temporary bus replacement services are operating as usual today.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for extreme heat, and we’re continuing to closely monitor temperatures as we move towards the hottest part of the day.
At this time, services are operating as normal. We’ll continue to monitor conditions throughout the day, with the safety of our customers and colleagues as our priority. If there are any changes to services, we’ll update our website and social media channels.
If you do need to travel today, please plan ahead, stay hydrated, carry water where possible and take extra care in the heat.

Wednesday 12 August update:
We’re continuing to monitor temperatures, with extreme heat forecast tomorrow, Thursday 13 August in the afternoon.
If temperatures reach the threshold, there may be a temporary suspension of tram services during the hottest part of the day at around 15:30-18:30. Services would resume once temperatures have cooled sufficiently for trams to operate safely. This could also affect temporary bus replacement services.
This decision is not based on temperature alone. During periods of extreme heat, tram infrastructure and equipment, including overhead power lines, track and signalling systems, can come under additional strain, increasing the risk of faults and service disruption. Any suspension would be a precautionary measure to protect the network and our customers.
We’ll share further information as soon as we can. Please only travel if it is essential and plan ahead.

Tuesday 11 August update:
High temperatures are forecast across South Yorkshire this week, with an amber heat health alert in place on Thursday 13 August.
At the moment, all Supertram services are running as normal and we are continuing to monitor the weather forecast closely.
However, if temperatures continue to rise during the week, the heat could affect parts of the tram network and some changes to services may be needed. This could include short-notice delays, speed restrictions or cancellations to help keep passengers and colleagues safe.
Hot weather can affect tram infrastructure, including tracks and overhead power equipment, which can impact the way services operate.
If any changes are required, we will keep customers updated as quickly as possible through our Travel Alerts webpage and social media channels.

If you're travelling during the hot weather, please:
- Allow extra time for your journey
- Check for the latest travel updates before you set off
- Stay hydrated and carry water where possible
- Seek shade while waiting at tram stops
- Plan ahead using our Journey Planner
- Take extra care if travelling with young children, older relatives or anyone who may be more vulnerable in the heat
