Travel advice for Sheffield Grand Prix – Wednesday 22 July 2026

The 2026 Sheffield Grand Prix cycle race will be held on Wednesday 22 July in the city centre. The event, now in its 12th year will again be part of the British Cycling National Circuit Race Series and will attract the UK’s top teams and riders to race around a new reworked 1.4km circuit, running anti-clockwise and climbing from the Crucible Theatre, up Norfolk Street, onto the cobbles to join Surrey Street before starting and finishing outside the Sheffield Town Hall. 

There will be road closures in place in the city centre between 14:30 and 23:00.

Impact on bus services

Between 14:30 and 23:00 Arundel Gate (between Furnival Square and Norfolk Street) will be closed. Furnival Gate will also be closed in one direction (outbound) to the junction of Pinstone Street/Arundel Gate.

These closures will result in some bus services being diverted while the event takes place as follows: 

  • Services 1, 2, 2A, 5, 7, 8, 8A, 30, 30A, 47, 48, 51, 75, 75A, 76, 76A, 76E, 83, 86, 88, 120, 120K, 252, SC2, X1, X2 towards Castle Square to divert from Furnival Roundabout via Furnival Street, Brown Street, Paternoster Row, Pond Street, Flat Street FS4, Angel Street
  • Service 51 towards Charnock to divert via Rockingham Street, Charter Row MH5
  • Services 20, 24, 25, 32, 95, 97, 98, X6, X7 towards Castle Square to divert from Furnival Roundabout via Furnival Street, Brown Street, Paternoster Row SS1, Harmer Lane, Sheaf Street, Park Square Roundabout.
  • Services 52, 52A towards Woodhouse to divert from Rockingham Street via Charter Row, Fitzwilliam Gate, Eyre Street, Furnival Street, Brown Street, Paternoster Row, Flat Street FS5, Angel Street
  • All services except Service 51 travelling in the direction of Sheffield Moorfoot are unaffected.

Arundel Gate in the direction of Sheffield Moorfoot will be closed to general traffic, but access will be maintained for buses and taxis.

Customers should use alternative bus stops on the diversion routes.
