More summer, less spending: Children travel free across South Yorkshire this August

Make the most of South Yorkshire this summer with free bus and tram travel for children aged 5 to 15 throughout August on participating services.
The offer is part of the UK Government's Great British Summer Savings campaign, which runs from Saturday 1 August to Monday 31 August, and is designed to help families reduce the cost of getting out and about during the school holidays. South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is also funding the extension of free travel on Supertram, helping families save money during the holidays.
There is no need to register or apply. Eligible children can simply hop on board and enjoy unlimited free travel on participating bus and tram services across the region. Children may be asked for proof of age if the driver thinks they look older than 15 years old. Accepted forms of identification include:
- Passport
- An existing Zoom Under 16 Travel Pass
- A school/student card
- Birth certificate
- Medical letter
Whether it's a trip to the park, a visit to a museum, a day at a leisure centre, or taking part in summer events and activities, free travel makes it easier for families to explore everything South Yorkshire has to offer and to visit friends and relatives or enjoy days out together.
Existing young people’s travel schemes will continue alongside the August offer, including the Barnsley MiCard, which provides free travel for under-18s in Barnsley, and the Zoom Travel Pass, which gives young people under 21 across South Yorkshire access to discounted fares. You can find out more about these schemes on our Zoom Travel Pass and Barnsley MiCard webpages. Children under 5-years-old can continue to travel for free all year round.
