Offender Sentenced After Assault and Tram Stop Damage

Supertram has welcomed the outcome of a recent court case involving the assault of a tram conductor, alongside threatening behaviour and criminal damage to tram stops at Attercliffe and Cricket Inn Road.

The individual was identified through CCTV and body-worn camera footage, and thanks to clear evidence and close partnership with South Yorkshire Police, received a six-week custodial sentence and compensation awarded to the conductor, which is due to be paid.

At Supertram, the safety and wellbeing of our colleagues remains our top priority. Antisocial or violent behaviour will not be tolerated, and we take firm action to hold offenders accountable.

Sean English, Managing Director at Supertram, said:
“Our colleagues work hard every day to keep services running and support our customers, and they deserve to do so without fear of abuse or intimidation. We will always stand firmly behind our staff and take action against anyone who puts them or our passengers at risk.”

A Travelsafe Officer at South Yorkshire Police added:
“This sentence shows that violence, threats, or criminal damage on the transport network are taken extremely seriously. Through partnership with Supertram, we will continue to identify offenders and ensure they face the courts.”
