Supertram Introduces Official Body Camera Policy for Onboard Conductors

Supertram has implemented a new body camera operation policy, making the use of body cameras a requirement for all onboard conductors. This decision marks a significant step in enhancing safety and security for both staff and passengers.

On Sunday, 2nd March 2025, Supertram officially integrated body cameras into daily operations as an additional safety measure, reinforcing its commitment to providing a secure travel environment. The new policy follows a successful trial period in which conductors were given the option to wear body cameras, first introduced in Autumn 2023.

Since the initial rollout, staff members have reported feeling safer while wearing the devices, and the presence of body cameras has proven to be an effective deterrent against anti-social behaviour.

Supertram continue to take a zero-tolerance stance on anti-social behaviour towards its staff and will be working with South Yorkshire Police to increase successful prosecutions by supporting investigations with body camera footage.

James Stewart, Supertram’s Head of Customer Service and Operations, commented: “The safety and wellbeing of our staff and passengers is our top priority. The introduction of body cameras is a vital step in ensuring a safer working environment for our frontline colleagues. These cameras not only help deter anti-social behaviour but also provide crucial evidence when needed. We are proud of the positive impact they have already had and look forward to continuing our commitment to safety and security.”

Supertram remains committed to ensuring the safety of its workforce and the community it serves. The introduction of mandatory body cameras is a proactive step in fostering a respectful and secure environment onboard its services.
