QR codes on paper tickets

From Sunday 1 March 2026, all paper Adult Tram Day tickets will include a QR code.

What’s changing?

If you buy an Adult Day paper ticket on board, it will now have a QR code printed on it. Just like digital tickets purchased through the TSY Mobile app, your paper ticket will need to be scanned by the onboard Conductor during your journey.

What’s staying the same?

  • Your ticket is still valid all day until 02:00 the following morning
  • There are no changes to fares, and prices remain frozen for 2026
  • All other Day tickets that can be purchased on board, including Child Day and CityWide Day, will remain the same, without a QR code
  • You can continue buying and using Day tickets as normal

The only difference is that your paper ticket will now be scanned on board.

Why are we introducing QR codes?

Scanning helps us capture more accurate journey information. This data supports us at Supertram and our colleagues at South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to better understand how customers use our services, so we can continue improving the network.

“Adding QR codes to paper tickets is a simple change that will help us better understand our customers’ travel habits and make journeys smoother for everyone,” says Nigel Wragg, Commercial Manager at Supertram.

What you need to do

  • Please keep your ticket in good condition so the QR code can be scanned easily
  • Have your ticket ready to show the Conductor during your journey

If there are any issues scanning your QR code, the Conductor will carry out a visual check, so you won’t be inconvenienced.
