Football Travel Guidance: Thursday 20 August 2026
On Thursday 20 August 2026, Sheffield Wednesday take on Bradford City at Hillsborough Stadium, with kick-off at 8pm.
If you’re heading to the match, here’s what you need to know to help you plan your journey.
Travelling by tram
Due to planned renewal works near Fitzalan Square, trams will not run directly between Sheffield Station and Cathedral, and Woodbourn Road and Cathedral. Replacement bus services will be available to help you continue your journey.
From Sheffield Station
Replacement bus: Catch the BP1 service from Granville Road (2 minutes walk) or from outside the train station (3 minutes walk) for onward travel to Cathedral.
Walk: Cathedral is around a 14-minute walk from Sheffield Station.
Continue by tram: From Cathedral tram stop, catch a Yellow route tram towards Middlewood and hop off at Leppings Lane for Hillsborough Stadium. Services will operate every 15 minutes.
Park & Ride
Free parking is available at Park & Ride sites across the Supertram network. The closest sites to Hillsborough Stadium are Middlewood and Malin Bridge.
If you are travelling from the city centre, you can also use Nunnery Square, Valley Centertainment, Carbrook, or Meadowhall Interchange.
From Nunnery Square, Meadowhall, or Rotherham
Replacement bus: Woodbourn Road is currently the end destination for the Yellow and Tram Train routes. From there, catch the YE1 or TT1 service to Cathedral, where you can connect with the Yellow route tram towards Middlewood.
Continue by tram: From Cathedral, catch a Yellow route tram towards Middlewood and hop off at Leppings Lane for Hillsborough Stadium. Services will operate every 15 minutes.

Travelling by bus
Some bus stops and routes will change on Thursday 20 August at Hillsborough.

Leppings Lane, Penistone Road, Fox Hill Road and Donovan Road will be temporarily inaccessible

Services 18, 18A, 31, 86, 97 and 98 will be diverted in some areas

Services 18, 18A, 31, 97 and 98 will use alternative routes around Hillsborough Interchange and Penistone Road

Services 7, 8 and 86 towards Wadsley Bridge will be diverted via Herries Road South and Herries Road. Services towards the city centre are unaffected

Service 86: Stagecoach services will be diverted around Fox Hill Road. First South Yorkshire services will continue on their normal route

Service 98 will be diverted via Southey Green Road and Wordsworth Avenue
Penistone Road outside the stadium will close after the final whistle. Normal services are expected to resume after 10:45pm, around one hour after the final whistle.
