Supertram supports VE Day 2025 with free travel

Serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans can get free travel across the South Yorkshire Supertram network this VE Day.
As the region celebrates the 80th anniversary of VE Day, on Thursday 8 May, it’s an opportunity for us to give thanks to those who risk their lives for our country, both then and now.
As a small token of our respect and gratitude, we will be offering free travel on Thursday 8 May to:
• Veterans wearing medals or a veteran badge, or who have a veteran’s ID card
• Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with a Military ID, or Defence Discount Service card
We’ll also be giving out free handwaving memorabilia flags onboard our trams (subject to availability), for customers who wish to join in the spirit of remembrance.
Where safe to do so, tram drivers may also choose to observe the 2-minute silence at noon.
Nigel Wragg, Commercial Manager at Supertram, said:
“The 80th anniversary of VE Day is a poignant moment for us all to reflect on the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought for peace in Europe.
We are proud to honour this historic milestone by offering free Supertram travel to veterans and serving military personnel across our network.
With this gesture, we hope to support local commemorations and make it easier for people to take part in events marking this important anniversary.”
Veterans and serving personnel can secure free travel simply by showing a relevant badge, uniform, or ID to a tram Conductor.
