#CarFreeFriday returns for COP26

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October-12 November 2021.  And we’re reflecting on how we can all contribute to a greener South Yorkshire by welcoming back #CarFreeFriday!

Car Free Friday can help people join together in making the decision to leave the car at home just one day a week, and choose to use public transport, or to walk or cycle to work or school instead.

As well as reducing emissions, choosing public transport or active travel over the car can contribute to your weekly activity, it can help you feel less stressed and can help you save on the cost of driving too.

There are loads of things that you can enjoy by trying a different way to commute – the obvious ones are contributing to cleaner air, upping your exercise for the week or winding down after your day. But what about something different? You could catch up with friends, do some shopping online, watch your favourite TV show…or even knit a hat!

Helping you on your greener journey

While you’re doing your bit for climate change, we can help make that switch to using public transport even sweeter and help you save some money on the price of your journey with the following ticket offers:

  • Flexi5 from TravelMaster –The Flexi5 is a single ticket that's valid for 5 separate days of travel. Find out where to buy it on TravelMaster's Flexi5 page.

  • Under 21? Travel for 80p per single journey with a Zoom travel pass. Find out if you’re eligible and apply now on our Zoom concessionary pass page.

Need convincing on making the switch?

One full double-decker bus can take up to 75 cars off the road. That’s less congestion and cleaner air for all of us.

If everyone switched just one car journey a week to public transport there would be one BILLION fewer car journeys on our roads – a saving of 2 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Walking to the bus stop can, on average, help you achieve half of the Government’s recommended 30 minutes per day exercise.
