Supertram strengthens industry leadership as Ian Law joins LRSSB Board

Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Supertram. As a proud and active member of the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB), we work collaboratively with partners across the UK to raise standards, share best practice and support the continued development of the light rail sector.

Supporting safer travel
We actively support LRSSB initiatives, including the national TWO LINES = STOP campaign to improve pedestrian awareness at tram crossings. Yellow safety boards are installed and rotated across our network to maximise visibility and keep customers safe. Find out more about tram crossing safety campaign >

Through our LRSSB membership, we also contribute operational and commercial expertise to help strengthen safety standards across the industry.

We’re delighted that Ian Law, Head of Finance & Commercial at Supertram, has been appointed as a Board Member of LRSSB.

Ian has played an important role in strengthening Supertram’s future, helping lead our successful transition into local authority control and now heading up our Finance and Commercial team. He previously held senior roles at Manchester Metrolink and has supported major light rail projects across the UK, including advising West Midlands Metro. This experience helps ensure we continue delivering a stable, sustainable and customer-focused service.

Carl Williams, Chief Executive at LRSSB, said:
“As the light rail sector continues to grow, our organisation will continue to evolve in line with its requirements, and Ian’s experience will prove invaluable as we explore a range of commercial opportunities and work towards greater independence.”

Ian Law added:
“Having already assisted the organisation with business planning and commercial modelling, I’m excited at the prospect of taking this work forward as a non-executive director. I’m also looking forward to supporting the LRSSB team as they build on their undoubted success over the past few years.”

Developing and supporting the industry
Ian’s appointment highlights Supertram’s commitment to supporting the wider industry, helping shape national safety standards while delivering a safe, reliable service locally.

Through our LRSSB membership, we continue to prioritise safety, collaboration and continuous improvement, ensuring we support both our customers today and the future of light rail.
