Industrial action affecting rail services - August update

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) union has announced strike action on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August.

The TSSA and Unite unions will also be striking on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August.

Customers are advised to only travel if necessary. During this time there will be significantly fewer trains running. Any services which do run will be extremely busy and operate a reduced timetable. Plan ahead and leave extra time to allow for severe disruption and short-notice changes.

Check your journey by visiting National Rail or the train operating company’s website.

Tram Train services

Due to industrial action being taken by a number of Network Rail staff, Stagecoach Supertram will be unable to operate the normal Tram Train timetable on Thursday 18, Friday 19 and Saturday 20 August

On Thursday 18 August and Saturday 20 August an hourly Tram Train service will operate with the first departure from Cathedral at 07:27 and the first departure from Parkgate at 07:59. The last departure from Cathedral to Parkgate will be at 17:27 with the last departure from Parkgate to Cathedral at 17:59.

On Friday 19 August, the first service from Cathedral to Parkgate will be 07:00 and from Parkgate to Cathedral at 07:32. A normal service will operate therefafter.

Tram Train services that are unable to serve Rotherham and Parkgate will operate as additional services between Meadowhall Interchange and Cathedral on the Yellow route.

For further timetable information on affected days visit the Stagecoach Supertram website.

Tickets

Operators are suspending sales of advance tickets for the strike dates to minimise disruption. Some tickets are usable on dates leading up to the strike action and customers are advised to check with the rail operator before travel.

Customers with tickets are advised to contact the company from which they purchased their products to enquire about any potential refund.

Most ticket offices across the region are expected to be closed, this will reduce the range of tickets available.

Tram Train tickets:

At times when Tram Train services are unable to serve Rotherham and Parkgate in full, valid tram tickets will be accepted on First and Stagecoach bus services in the affected areas.

Plan ahead before you travel:

Buses in the South Yorkshire region will be running a normal timetable but, due to disruption on the rail network, services may be busier than normal.
