New rail ticket acceptance rules in times of disruption

As of 15 December 2024, LNER, Northern, and TransPennine Express will allow customers to travel on each other’s services at no extra cost in cases of short-notice or on-the-day cancellations.
Should your train be cancelled, your ticket can be used on these operators' services up to 2 hours before or 2 hours after your scheduled departure.
This flexibility is currently available only with publicly owned train operators; however, customers may still be able to travel on private train operators in the event their train is cancelled—though this will be handled on a case-by-case basis and clearly communicated.
