Community invited to join Elsecar Song Walk celebrating local heritage, song and memories
Residents across South Yorkshire are invited to enjoy a unique day of song, storytelling, heritage and friendship at Voices of Elsecar: Stories, Songs & Memories, a free guided Song Walk taking place on 12 October 2026.

Led by folk singer and storyteller Tegwen Roberts and organised by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Community Rail Team, the event combines train travel, singing, storytelling and a gentle heritage walk through one of South Yorkshire's most historic villages.
Participants will discover fascinating stories from Elsecar's industrial and railway past, join in with traditional songs, share memories and enjoy meeting new people along the way. The event also supports the aims of the International Day of Older Persons, encouraging connections between generations and celebrating the contribution older people make to our communities.
Participants can enjoy:
- A guided walk around historic Elsecar
- Group singing and traditional songs
- Stories from Elsecar's industrial and railway heritage
- Opportunities to share memories and local knowledge
- Fresh air, gentle exercise and social connection
- Scenic rail journey to and from Elsecar
Cathrine Ashworth, Community Rail Officer at South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, said:
"Through song, storytelling and shared experiences, we'll explore Elsecar's remarkable heritage while bringing people together to connect, learn and enjoy time in the community."
