Travel South Yorkshire backs Catch the Bus Month

Travel South Yorkshire is supporting Catch the Bus Month this September, joining a national campaign to highlight the benefits of bus travel and challenge some of the common myths that still exist around using the bus.

Led by Bus Users UK, Catch the Bus Month celebrates the important role buses play in helping people make everyday journeys and stay connected to the people, places and opportunities that matter most.

Whether it's travelling to work, college, appointments, the shops or meeting friends and family, buses help millions of people get around every day. Across the UK, around 10 million bus journeys are made daily, helping to keep communities connected while reducing congestion and supporting more sustainable travel.

This year's campaign focuses on myth-busting, tackling outdated perceptions of bus travel and showcasing the reality of today's bus services.

Throughout September, Travel South Yorkshire will be sharing facts, information and updates to help people learn more about the benefits of travelling by bus, from affordability and accessibility to convenience and environmental benefits.

Andrew Simpson, Assistant Director of Bus Services and Bus Franchising from South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority said:

"Catch the Bus Month is a great opportunity to celebrate the role buses play in our daily lives and to challenge some of the misconceptions that can put people off travelling by bus.

"Bus services help people access jobs, education, healthcare and leisure activities, while offering a convenient and more sustainable way to travel. We're pleased to be supporting the campaign and helping more people discover the benefits of choosing the bus."

Lydia Horbury, Chief Executive of Bus Users UK, said:

"Catch the Bus Month 2026 is all about shifting the narrative and busting the myths around bus travel. Buses are affordable, accessible, sustainable and essential to the millions who travel on them every day, yet many people still don't realise the positive impact they have on our lives, our health, our communities and the environment.

"We're thrilled to have Travel South Yorkshire on board to champion these lifeline services, challenge misconceptions, and help more people discover the real benefits of travelling by bus."
