Key travel advice

During the festive period, transport services will run on different schedules. On some days, the last departures may be earlier than usual, and in some cases services may be limited or not running at all.

Please note that we will be adding to this webpage as updates are received. If your service is not shown, please keep checking this page for the latest service information.

Normal fares apply, and travel passes, TravelMaster tickets and season tickets will be accepted.

Travel by bus

A ‘Saturday plus’ service means the usual Saturday service with some extra early morning and evening journeys added.
A ‘Saturday plus with early finish’ service means the usual Saturday service with some extra early morning journeys but with an earlier finish in the evening.

Monday 22 December: Saturday plus service with the exception of Globe Coaches running a Saturday service, and High Peak, Hornsby’s, South Pennine and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service.
Tuesday 23 December: Saturday plus service with the exception of Globe Coaches running a Saturday service, and High Peak, Hornsby’s, South Pennine and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service.
Wednesday 24 December (Christmas Eve): Saturday plus with an early finish service with the exception of Globe Coaches running a Saturday service with an early finish, High Peak, South Pennine and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service with an early finish and Hornsby’s running a Monday-Friday service.
Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day): No service.
Friday 26 December (Boxing Day): Sheffield Boxing Day special services with some Stagecoach GXO services also running (see operator for details).
Saturday 27 December: Saturday service.
Sunday 28 December: Sunday service.
Monday 29 December: Saturday plus service with the exception of Globe Coaches, High Peak and
South Pennine running a Saturday service, and Hornsby’s, South Pennine services 44, 107 & 181 and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service.
Tuesday 30 December: Saturday plus with the exception of Globe Coaches, High Peak and South Pennine running a Saturday service, and Hornsby’s, South Pennine services 44, 107 & 181 and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service.
Wednesday 31 December (New Year's Eve): Saturday plus service with an early finish service with the exception of Globe Coaches, High Peak and South Pennine running a Saturday service with an early finish, and some Stagecoach, South Pennine services 44, 107 & 181 and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service with an early finish and Hornsby’s running a Monday-Friday service.
Thursday 1 January (New Year's Day): Sheffield New Years Day special services with some Stagecoach GXO services also running (see operator for details).
Friday 2 January: Saturday plus service with the exception of High Peak running a Saturday service, and Globe Coaches, Hornsby’s, South Pennine and some Stagecoach and TM Travel services running a Monday-Friday service.
Saturday 3 January: Normal services resume.
Sunday 4 January: Normal services resume.
Monday 5 January: Normal services resume.

Buses in Sheffield

Boxing Day (Friday 26 December): A special Boxing Day service will operate in Sheffield, provided by the South Yorkshire Enhanced Bus Partnership. Buses will be operated by First, Stagecoach, and TM Travel.

New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January): A special New Year's Day service will operate in Sheffield with funding from Sheffield City Council and will be operated by First.

Supertram

Boxing Day (Friday 26 December): Yellow route services will operate between Meadowhall Interchange and Middlewood.
A special Blue route service will operate between Halfway and Meadowhall Interchange via Cathedral.

New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January): Blue route services will operate between Halfway and Cathedral. Yellow route services will operate between Meadowhall Interchange and Middlewood. Tram Train services will operate between Cathedral and Parkgate.

Traveline opening hours

Our contact centre team is available to help over the phone for free. Just call 0800 952 0002.

Traveline is open as normal from 7am to 7pm on Monday to Friday, and 8am to 7pm on weekends, with the exception of the following days during the festive period:

Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day): CLOSED
Friday 26 December (Boxing Day): CLOSED
Saturday 27 December: 08:00-18:00

All other times will be normal opening hours. When Traveline is closed, no live updates will be shared through X or our disruptions page, and we won't be available to take your call.

Travelling with a senior pass

From Saturday 27 December to Thursday 1 January inclusive, Senior Travel Pass holders (ENCTS) will be able to travel for free all day on South Yorkshire’s buses and Supertram, and benefit from half fare travel on Northern train services within South Yorkshire.
