Christmas Travel Advice: Service changes during Christmas and the New Year

Key travel advice

During the festive period, transport services will run on different schedules. On some days, the last departures may be earlier than usual, and in some cases services may be limited or not running at all.

Please note that we will be adding to this webpage as updates are received. If your service is not shown, please keep checking this page for the latest service information.

Normal fares apply, and travel passes, TravelMaster tickets and season tickets will be accepted.

Buses in Sheffield

Boxing Day (Friday 26 December): A special Boxing Day service will operate in Sheffield, provided by the South Yorkshire Enhanced Bus Partnership. Buses will be operated by First, Stagecoach, and TM Travel.

New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January): A special New Year's Day service will operate in Sheffield with funding from Sheffield City Council and will be operated by First.

Supertram

Boxing Day (Friday 26 December): Yellow route services will operate between Meadowhall Interchange and Middlewood. 
A special Blue route service will operate between Halfway and Meadowhall Interchange via Cathedral.

New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January): Blue route services will operate between Halfway and Cathedral. Yellow route services will operate between Meadowhall Interchange and Middlewood. Tram Train services will operate between Cathedral and Parkgate.

Traveline opening hours

Our contact centre team is available to help over the phone for free. Just call 0800 952 0002.

Traveline is open as normal from 7am to 7pm on Monday to Friday, and 8am to 7pm on weekends, with the exception of the following days during the festive period:

  • Wednesday 24 December (Christmas Eve): 08:00-18:00
  • Thursday 25 December (Christmas Day): CLOSED
  • Friday 26 December (Boxing Day): CLOSED
  • Saturday 27 December: 08:00-18:00
  • Sunday 28 December: 08:00-18:00
  • Monday 29 December: 08:00-18:00 
  • Tuesday 30 December: 08:00-18:00
  • Wednesday 31 December: 08:00-18:00
  • Thursday 01 January: CLOSED
  • Friday 02 January: 07:00-19:00

All other times will be normal opening hours. When Traveline is closed, no live updates will be shared through X or our disruptions page, and we won't be available to take your call.

Travelling with a senior pass

From Saturday 27 December to Thursday 1 January inclusive, Senior Travel Pass holders (ENCTS) will be able to travel for free all day on South Yorkshire’s buses and Supertram, and benefit from half fare travel on Northern train services within South Yorkshire.

TravelMaster tickets

TravelMaster tickets cannot be refunded or extended for days when there are few or no public transport services.
