Supertram renewal works at Hillsborough and Middlewood

Works take place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 April 2025

Information on this page:

A number of essential works to improve your Supertram network and enhance conditions for all road users will take place in Hillsborough for 3 days (Friday 18 to Sunday 20 April) and at Middlewood for 1 day (Sunday 20 April).

The works have been timed to coincide with the Easter weekend, and are being completed simultaneously, to help minimise disruption in the local area as much as possible. Work will be taking place to:

  • Renew track at Hillsborough Interchange
  • Repair the concrete track bed at Hillsborough Corner
  • Renew track near Middlewood Park and Ride, on Middlewood Road
  • Renew parts of the overhead line equipment on Middlewood Road

To ensure work can be carried out safely, various roads will be closed and bus services will be unable to access Hillsborough Interchange, instead diverting to alternative and temporary bus stops.

This page details changes to tram services and the replacement bus services which will be in operation. Please check our separate page for full information about changes to local buses and roads.

Buses will replace Blue and Yellow route trams between Shalesmoor/Kelham Island and Malin Bridge and Middlewood. Replacement bus service YE1 will also extend to Cathedral on Friday and Saturday only.

These works won’t affect other tram routes.

Normal service in this area is expected to resume on Monday 21 April (Easter Monday).

This year significant investment is being made across the Supertram network, helping to enhance your journey and ensure continued reliability. View more information about how we’re improving your network on our Supertram Network Improvements page.
