Dogs on Trams: Guidance to Dog Owners
Our dogs on trams pilot allows passengers to travel onboard Supertram with one well-behaved dog.
The outcome of this pilot will inform a decision regarding a potential permanent change in policy to permit dogs to travel on Supertram.
Please follow this guidance when travelling with a dog onboard Supertram:
- Supertram will allow one well-behaved dog per passenger free of charge, but you will be liable for their behaviour.
- Dogs must be kept on a fixed lead (non-extendable) and under close control at all times.
- Your dog is your responsibility. If your dog is involved in an incident concerning another passenger, a member of our staff or member of the public, you will be liable. Supertram staff retain the right to refuse travel at their discretion.
- Aggressive dogs must not be taken onto the tram. Make sure your dog is wearing a muzzle where required.
- If your dog makes a mess on the tram, tram stop or anywhere on the network, you will need to clean it up and inform a member of staff where possible. You should carry poo bags and/or wipes.
- Avoid busy services and other dogs (including assistance dogs) when travelling on the tram.
- Dogs are not allowed on seats while travelling on the tram.
- You should avoid occupying the wheelchair spaces on the tram and must move out of this space if a wheelchair or pram user requires it.
- Dogs should not obstruct the aisles or impede the movement of people around the tram.
- Do not stand near the doors with your dog. They could be a hazard to other passengers or become trapped in the doors.
- Be considerate of others on the Supertram network who may be frightened of dogs, or who may be allergic to dog hair.
- Make sure your dog is up to date with any vaccinations or treatments it needs.
