Blowing our own trumpet on Yorkshire Day

Sheffield Cathedral tram stop was alive with the sound of music last Friday, thanks to Yorkshire-based Diggle Community Brass band. Members of the band came to entertain passengers on Yorkshire Day (1 August) with a range of classic and modern hits. The band played from 10:30am to 12:00pm, offering a traditional brass band experience for tram passengers and visitors to the cathedral.
We are proud to support community events that bring people together. Brass bands remain a treasured part of Yorkshire’s cultural identity, and the celebrations didn’t stop at the music.
As part of the day, trams and Conductors proudly displayed the iconic Yorkshire Rose, with rose stickers in tram windows and pin badges worn by staff to mark the occasion. It was a small but meaningful way to show our pride in being part of the region and reflect on more than a year since Supertram returned to public ownership under the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).
Graham Barnes, Diggle Community Brass conductor, said: “It was a real joy to play on Yorkshire Day and especially to be joined by members of the Supertram team. Music connects people and this was a great way to celebrate being part of the Yorkshire Day celebrations.”
