Supertram and Global, the Media & Entertainment group, have completed a major upgrade of the tram network’s 6-sheet advertising estate. A new generation of high-quality, energy-efficient LED-lit posters have been installed across the network, which serves some of the city’s busiest locations including, Sheffield Station, Meadowhall Interchange and the University of Sheffield.

The new advertising units feature brighter displays, reduced energy use, and a more contemporary look and feel, improving the experience for millions of passengers and providing stand-out opportunities for creative marketing campaigns. In addition, brands can now take over tram stops with eye-catching wrapped shelter formats, offering significant visibility at high-footfall locations.

This investment marks the latest chapter in the long-standing partnership between Global and Supertram, now operated by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA). It reflects a shared commitment to improving passenger environments while delivering sustainable, high-quality advertising opportunities for the region.

Nigel Wragg, Commercial Manager at Supertram said: “I’m delighted with the results of our latest upgrade project with Global. The enhanced advertising estate demonstrates how modern, sustainable investment can support both cleaner public transport and strong commercial outcomes, laying the groundwork for future collaboration as SYMCA continues to shape the region’s transport landscape. The new LED displays not only elevate the presentation of outdoor creative, they also cut energy consumption across the estate by 70%! By improving quality and consistency across our estate, we expect to see stronger advertising interest which in turn supports revenue generation that directly contributes towards improving the operation of Supertram services and customer experience.”

Nicole Guerretta, Director of Partnerships for Transport & Business Development at Global added: “Working hand-in-hand with Supertram, our outdoor teams have delivered a step-change in the quality and sustainability of the network’s advertising assets. The new ECO units provide fresh, consistent illumination and noticeably improved posters that elevate creative campaigns while reducing energy use across the network. It’s a fantastic milestone in a long-standing partnership, unlocking high-impact opportunities for advertisers and a contemporary, positive experience for passengers.”
