Doncaster Town Centre pedestrianisation

From Wednesday 20 May, Doncaster Council will be pedestrianising the following roads in the town centre:

  • Cleveland Street

  • Wood Street

  • Hallgate

  • Silver Street

No vehicular access will be permitted between 10am and 4pm, with deliveries only outside of these times.

These measures are being put in place to help with social distancing in the town centre, providing more space for queuing outside shops and at bus stops, so buses will be diverted to accommodate these changes.

From the start of service on Wednesday 20 May buses normally using Cleveland Street, and therefore Wood Street, Hallgate, Princes Street and Silver Street, will be diverted via Waterdale.

Services to and from

  • Thorne Road/Silver Street (15, 66, 81/82, 84 and 87b) will serve the bus shelter on Waterdale (WD1)

  • Service 15 will serve stops on East Laithe Gate, Nether Hall Road and Market Road as normal in addition to Waterdale

  • Temporary stops will be installed on Thorne Road, just after the mini roundabout. Services 81/82 and 66 will serve the first temporary stop, services 84 and 87b will serve the second temporary stop

  • Bennethorpe (57c/57f, 58a/58/58f, 291 and 399) will serve the second temporary stop on Waterdale - nearest the shelter

  • Bennethorpe (21/29, 55 and 73) will serve the first temporary stop on Waterdale - furthest from the shelter

  • These services will then serve their normal stops at Regent Square

  • Please note that service 56 will not serve the town centre to pick up after leaving the interchange.

Alighting passengers

All inbound services which would usually use Wood Street and Cleveland Street will use Waterdale and College Road before going to the interchange, and there will be alighting only stops on Waterdale (outside the Civic Building) as well as stops already in place on College Road.

There will be notices on bus stops on Cleveland Street, Wood Street, Hallgate, Princes Street and Thorne Road.
