Child fares to rise to £1

Child fares for single journeys on South Yorkshire bus and tram services will change from 80p to £1 on 1 November 2023. South Yorkshire child fares have not risen since 2016.
The changes are part of a series of measures to protect as many bus routes and services as possible across the region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the child fare?

Child fares are available to all children aged 5-10 inclusive (under 5s go free) along with those aged 11-18 that are resident in South Yorkshire and show a Zoom Under 16 or Zoom 16-18 Travel Pass. The child concession is a non-statutory service funded by SYMCA.

Why is this being increased?

The funding South Yorkshire receives from Government to support local bus services has reduced and is not enough to protect all services and fare incentives. Fifteen percent of the bus network has been lost since October 2022. The increase to child fares was agreed by the Mayoral Combined Authority board meeting as part of a series of measures to protect as many routes and services as possible across the region
