Song Walk in Edale on Thursday 22 May

To celebrate 200 years of the modern railways and Community Rail Week, South Yorkshire Community Rail and Penistone Line are organising a free Song Walk on Thursday 22 May, in Edale.
Showcasing the history of Sheffield Clarion Ramblers the walk will take inspiration from the group’s guidelines that every ramble should include the singing of a song.
The event, during National Walking Month, will be hosted by folk singer Tegwen Roberts and Community Rail Officers. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis, so if you’re interested in taking part, please email CommunityRail@southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk.*
Participants will meet at Sheffield rail station and travel on the 11:14 Manchester Piccadilly train to Edale in the Hope Valley (Peak District National Park).
Between 1901 and 1964, the group produced a handbook with poems, points of interest, and local history every year. We’ll be using the historical content from these books to enjoy a two-hour guided walk around Edale/Barber Booth.
The Clarion Ramblers believed that walking and singing together in the open air was good for mind, body and soul, and as part of the walk participants will be invited to join in with songs that connect to the stories being told.

The Sheffield Clarion Ramblers was a rambling club founded by G. H. B. Ward in Sheffield in 1900, and its first ramble was around Edale, with 14 people. At its peak it had 200 members, but numbers later dwindled, and it was disbanded in 2015.Between 1901 and 1964, the group produced a handbook with poems, points of interest, and local history every year.
