Volunteers wanted for song walk in Elsecar

Put on your walking boots and warm up your vocal cords – South Yorkshire Community Rail is inviting 20 people from Sheffield to join a free Song Walk in Elsecar on Monday 13 October!
We’ll be bringing the rich stories of this fascinating village to life through song, celebrating local heritage, connecting people, and showcasing one of the most scenic spots on our rail network.
What: Song Walk in Elsecar
When: Monday 13 October
Leading the way is local folk singer Tegwen Roberts, who’ll guide us with songs and stories that reveal Elsecar’s colourful past. Whether you’re a confident singer or just love humming along, this is a brilliant chance to be part of something special.
We’ll kick things off with a friendly meet-up at Sheffield Railway Station, then hop on the train together for the short journey to Elsecar. Once there, we’ll explore highlights like the Old Wagonway, Newcomen Engine, Canal Basin, Elsecar Church, and Heritage Centre before wrapping up at a local café for a well-earned brew (at your own expense) before catching the train back to Sheffield.
What to bring:
- Sense of adventure
- Comfy shoes
- A fully charged phone
- A few coins for a café treat (optional!)
It’s completely free – train fares are covered, so all you need to do is show up ready to sing, stroll, and soak up the stories.
