Village Stories Song Walk – Elsecar 27 April
Lace up your walking boots and warm up your singing voice – SYMCA are hosting the next event in their series of free heritage song walks; The Village Stories Song Walk at Elsecar on 27 April!
Join local folk singer Tegwen and Community Rail Officer Cathrine for a joyful session of shared singing, where we’ll bring the village’s rich past to life through song while enjoying gentle exercise, meeting new people, and boosting wellbeing in one of the most scenic spots on our rail network.
We’ll begin with a friendly welcome at your local station or aboard the train to Elsecar, before starting the event at Elsecar Railway station. For the next 90 minutes we’ll explore the village, celebrating the people who shaped Elsecar, weaving together the human stories behind the history and building on the industrial tales uncovered during our last Song Walk. We’ll then head to a cosy local café for a well‑earned break, before catching the train home.
What to bring
- A sense of adventure, kindness & respect
- Comfy shoes
- A fully charged phone
- A few coins for a brew at the café (optional!)
This event is aimed at adults and young people (14+) with adult supervision, living in South Yorkshire. Due to uneven, cobbled pathways along the route, this event may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. It’s completely free to join – we’ll cover the train fares, we only ask you to bring a spirit of kindness and respect, helping create a welcoming space where everyone feels included and comfortable.
Booking is essential, please email your name, local station and any support requirements to Cathrine at
Whether you are new to song walks, love belting out a tune or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this is a wonderful chance to be part of something warm, welcoming, and fun.
