    The tram rail replacement project continues in 2019, with work scheduled for sections track that were initially laid in the early 1990’s. The second area of work will take place Shalesmoor and Hillsborough affecting Yellow and Blue Route services.

    Area 2 - Shalesmoor towards Hillsborough - Monday 3 June to Thursday 18 July

    Yellow route tram services will run between Meadowhall and Cathedral. The route will be extended to Shalesmoor in the evenings and on Sundays. SL1/a buses from Stocksbridge will be extended to run from Middlewood to the city centre.

    Blue route tram services will run between Halfway and Shalesmoor with replacement buses operating between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor.

    Purple Route and Tram Train Route services will not be affected and will operate as normal during this time. 

    What replacement buses will operate?

    Two replacement bus services will run:

    BL2 replacement bus service will run between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor (extended to the city centre - Haymarket - in the evening)
    SL1/a Supertram link bus will be extended to continue on from Middlewood to the city centre via Hillsborough Interchange (except 3 to 6 June when buses are diverted away and are unable to use the Interchange at Hillsborough).

    The routes of these two bus services will vary slightly throughout Area 2 works as the traffic management changes as follows:

    Monday 3 June – Thursday 6 June 2019

    From Monday 3 June works will be taking place on Langsett Road near Hillsborough Barracks between Ripley Street and Hammerton Road. There will be an Inbound road closure on Langsett Road between Ripley Street and Hammerton Road.

    BL2 replacement bus services will operate a circular route between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor (Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough and Malin Bridge tram stops will be closed).
    - From Malin Bridge the BL2 service will operate via Bradfield Road and Penistone Road. In the evenings services will be extended to Haymarket in the city centre. 
    - From Shalesmoor the BL2 service will follow the tram route turning left on to Holme Lane to Malin Bridge. In the evenings the service will be extended to run from Commercial Street in the city centre.

    SL1/a bus services from Stocksbridge will be extended to operate between Middlewood and the city centre. City Hall, West Street, University of Sheffield, Netherthorpe Road, Shalesmoor, Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough, Hillsborough Park, Leppings Lane and Middlewood tram stops will be closed.
    - From Middlewood the SL1/a service will operate via Catch Bar Lane, Penistone Road, Cuthbert Road, Infirmary Road into the city centre to terminate on Haymarket.
    - From Commercial Street, in the city centre, the SL1/a service will operate direct to Shalesmoor before continuing following the tram route to Middlewood.

    Friday 7 June – Wednesday 19 June 2019

    From Friday 7 June works will be focused on the section of track on Langsett Road near Bamforth Street and Burnaby Street. There will be an outbound road closure on Langsett Road between Capel Street and Bamforth Street.

    BL2 replacement bus services will operate a circular route between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor. Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough and Malin Bridge tram stops will be closed.
    - From Malin Bridge the BL2 service will run along Holme Lane, serving Hillsborough Interchange before following the tram route to Shalesmoor. In the evenings services will be extended to Haymarket in the city centre. 
    - From Shalesmoor the BL2 service will run along the tram route on Infirmary Road before turning right onto Cuthbert Bank Road, Penistone Road, Bradfield Road, Holme Lane dropping passengers at the stop on Holme Lane/Walkley Lane before travelling back to Malin Bridge. . In the evenings the service will be extended to run from Commercial Street in the city centre.

    SL1/a bus services from Stocksbridge will be extended to operate between Middlewood and the city centre. City Hall, West Street, University of Sheffield, Netherthorpe Road, Shalesmoor, Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough, Hillsborough Park, Leppings Lane and Middlewood tram stops will be closed.
    - From Middlewood the SL1/a service will operate via the tram route to Shalesmoor, serving Hillsborough Interchange, before continuing in to the city centre to terminate on Haymarket.
    - From Commercial Street, in the city centre, the SL1/a service will run direct to Shalesmoor, along Infirmary Road, Cuthbert Bank Road, onto Penistone Road, Bradfield Road then turn left into Hillsborough Interchange before turning right and following the tram route to Middlewood.

    Thursday 20 June – Friday 5 July 2019

    From Thursday 20 June works will be carried out on Langsett Road between Cuthbert Bank and Ash Street. There will be an inbound road closure on Langsett Road between Cuthbert Bank Road and Flora Street.

    BL2 replacement bus services will operate between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor. Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough and Malin Bridge tram stops will be closed.
    - From Malin Bridge the BL2 service will operate via the tram route, serving Hillsborough Interchange then continue along Langsett Road before turning left onto Bamforth Street to join Penistone Road, returning to the tram route on Infirmary Road via Flora Street and heading to the city centre to terminate at Haymarket. . In the evenings services will be extended to Haymarket in the city centre. 
    - From Shalesmoor the BL2 service will follow the tram route to Malin Bridge. In the evenings the service will be extended to run from Commercial Street in the city centre.

    Saturday 6 July – Monday 8 July 2019

    From Saturday 6 July works will continue on Langsett Road between Cuthbert Bank and Ash Street. There will be an outbound closure of Langsett Road between Flora Street and Primrose Hill.

    BL2 replacement bus services will operate between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough and Malin Bridge tram stops will be closed).
    - From Malin Bridge the BL2 service will follow the tram route to Shalesmoor, serving Hillsborough Interchange, before running direct to the city centre to terminate at Haymarket. In the evenings services will be extended to Haymarket in the city centre. 
    - From Shalesmoor, the BL2 service will follow the tram route to Malin Bridge, serving the bus stop on Holme Lane /Walkley Lane near Hillsborough Interchange. In the evenings the service will be extended to run from Commercial Street in the city centre.

    SL1/a bus services from Stocksbridge will be extended to operate between Middlewood and the city centre.     - From Commercial Street, in the city centre, the SL1/a service will run direct to Shalesmoor along Infirmary Road then turn right on to Flora Street to join Penistone Road, then left onto Bamforth street to join Langsett Road to serve Hillsborough Interchange then back onto the tram route to Middlewood.

    Tuesday 9 July – Thursday 18 July 2019

    From Tuesday 9 July works will take place on Infirmary Road between Wood Street and Flora Street. There will be an inbound closure of Infirmary Road between Wood Street and West Don Street.

    BL2 replacement bus services will operate between Malin Bridge and Shalesmoor. Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough and Malin Bridge tram stops will be closed.
    - From Malin Bridge the BL2 service will follow the tram route, serving Hillsborough Interchange, before turning left onto Bamforth Street to join Penistone Road, back on to Infirmary Road at Shalesmoor.. In the evenings services will be extended to Haymarket in the city centre. 
    - From Shalesmoor, the BL2 service will follow the tram route to Malin Bridge, serving the bus stop on Holme Lane /Walkley Lane near Hillsborough Interchange.. In the evenings the service will be extended to run from Commercial Street in the city centre.

    SL1/a bus services from Stocksbridge will be extended to operate between Middlewood and the city centre. City Hall, West Street, University of Sheffield, Netherthorpe Road, Shalesmoor, Infirmary Road, Langsett/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough, Hillsborough Park, Leppings Lane and Middlewood tram stops will be closed
    - From Middlewood the SL1/a service will operate via the tram route, serving Hillsborough Interchange, before turning left onto Bamforth Street to join Penistone Road, back on to Infirmary Road at Shalesmoor then operating direct to the city centre to terminate at Haymarket.
    - From Commercial Street, in the city centre, the SL1/a service will run direct to Shalesmoor before following the tram route, serving Hillsborough Interchange, to Middlewood.

    Tramlines Festival

    A full tram service is expected to be in operation on all routes over the Tramlines festival weekend from Friday 19 July – Sunday 21 July 2019.

    Park & Ride

    Malin Bridge and Middlewood Park and Ride sites will remain open and parking will be free whilst these essential works take place.  Customers will just need to buy their travel ticket on board.

    Supertram Rail Replacement Scheme

    The tram rail replacement project continues in 2019, with work scheduled for sections track that were initially laid in the early 1990’s, the new rail will improve passenger comfort and reduce noise in areas where the track is worn. 

     

    Stage Two takes place between April 2019 and August 2019

     

    Area 2 - Hillsborough Corner to Middlewood tram terminus - Tuesday 23 April until Sunday 2 June 2019 NOW COMPLETED

    Area 3 - Shalesmoor to Hillsborough Corner – Monday 3 June until Friday 26 July 2019

    Area 4 - Hillsborough Corner to Malin Bridge – Monday 22 July until Friday 9 August 2019

    Area 5 - University Curve – Sunday 23 August until Friday 23 August.
