Applying for a 16-18 pass
If you are between 16 and 18, are in full time education at a school or college, and you live in South Yorkshire, you can get a Student Pass. That means you can travel for the concessionary fare – currently 40p on buses and trams. Plus, you can also travel for half fare on Northern Rail trains in South Yorkshire.
(Read notes one and two below to check that you definitely qualify, and if you do, why not apply?)
Pick up an application form from school, college, or any information centre – you can even print one from here.
You can download the 16-18 Application Form (PDF, 429Kb - you will need Adobe Reader or similar to view).
Take the application form with:
- proof of your birth date,
- proof of address (see the application form to find out which documents are accepted)
- a current passport photograph.
When your pass is ready, you can collect it from your designated information centre from 1 September.
Remember to apply AT LEAST three weeks before term starts to make sure your pass is there for your first day!
Note one: 'Aged 16-18' means that you have passed your 16th birthday and that you have not yet reached your 18th birthday on the first day of the academic year. For this purpose, the first day of the academic year is 1 September. If you are 18 or over you need to look at Student TravelMaster instead. Ask your college's Student Services Office – or equivalent – for details.
Note two: 'Full time education' means a minimum of 12 hours' guided learning a week. If you don't qualify on these grounds, you can always ask your college's Student Services Office - or equivalent – for details of Student TravelMaster. Passes are free, but if you lose yours, there will be a charge to replace it. This is currently £5.
