 How to apply:

Apply online

The quickest way to apply for your Megatravel pass is to apply online with a MyTSY account. This link takes you to the MyTSY homepage. It usually takes up to 7 working days to process a pass this way if all details are correct.

New to MyTSY? - If you haven't already registered for a MyTSY account you will need to create one in your child's name. Once you have set up the account you need to click on Passes in the top menu and then Concessions. You will then see the option to click on MegaTravel Pass to apply.

Already got a myTSY account? - If you already have a MyTSY account then you will need to use a different email for your child (such as Gmail or Yahoo) to set up a new MyTSY account on behalf of your child - this is because you will need to enter your child's date of birth and not yours on the account.

What you will need to include:

  • Name
  • Home address (must be in South Yorkshire)
  • Delivery address (if different from home address )
  • Email or telephone number
  • Date of Birth
  • Digital photograph

Photographs should be recent, passport-style, taken against a light, plain background, free from any writing or over-print, full face with eyes open, and showing face and shoulders only. Please see the “Acceptable Photo guide” for guidance.

If you are able to provide the proof of age and passport number your Megatravel card can be processed straight away.

If you are unable to supply a Passport number you can attach a scan of a document of proof of age and address (such as medical card, birth certificate, an official letter, a utility bill – this can be addressed to your parents) your pass will then be processed after the documents are checked and verified.

Apply by post or by using our interchange drop box

This way of applying takes longer to process and it may take up to 21 working days before your pass is processed.

Frequently asked questions

Q. My child starts secondary school in September but is not 11 until near the end of August. Do I have to wait to apply until after their birthday?

A. No you can apply any time before their birthday.

Q. My daughter is going to be 11 in September and will be in Year 6 but she is still at junior school so will she need a pass yet or is it just senior school children?

A. All school children aged 11-16 must have a MegaTravel pass to benefit from discounted travel, however even children younger than 11 can apply for this pass.

Q. Is there an alternative to the summer saver ticket?

A. The best alternative to the summer saver is either the TravelMaster 18 (valid on buses, trains and trams) or the TravelMaster SY Connect (valid on buses and trams).

Q. We live in Barnsley but my child attends school in Wakefield. Would this pass be suitable for her to use?

A. Not to travel to school because this pass is only valid in South Yorkshire.  However, we’d still recommend getting a MegaTravel pass so your child can benefit from discounted travel within South Yorkshire.

Q. Why can't my child just show their passport, birth certificate, or other proof of age?

A. SYPTE only funds children's concessionary fares in South Yorkshire. They are available only to residents of South Yorkshire. The MegaTravel pass is the acceptable proof that shows the driver your child is a resident in South Yorkshire.
