  • Young people and students

Young people and students all over South Yorkshire are getting smarter. Holders of 16-18 Student Pass and certain Megatravel cards are now able to scan their cards on these smart buses:

    • First buses
    • Stagecoach buses
    • Supertram
    • TM Travel buses, and
    • Sheffield Community Transport buses

    Smart Megatravel Cards

Plastic Megatravel cards have been made smart, meaning that if you’re in Years 7, 8 or 9 you now have to scan your card on buses and Supertram before paying the 80p fare. Other students in Years 10 and 11 may also have to scan their card if they have a plastic one like shown here:

All you need to do is simply hold your card on the reader by the driver’s cab as you board the bus or hold it on the card readers held by the Supertram conductors. Once the machine beeps, you pay your 80p fare as normal. On other bus and train services, or if there's a problem scanning the card, just show your Megatravel card to the driver or conductor and pay your fare as normal.

These new rules only apply to plastic Megatravel cards with an ITSO logo like the one shown above. If you have a paper Megatravel card or a Mega MiCard, just show it to the driver or conductor as you normally would before you pay your fare.

The process is simple. Just hold your card on the reader near the driver’s cab as you board smart buses or hold it on the card readers held by the Supertram conductors. Once the machine beeps, you pay your 80p fare as usual. On other bus and train services, or if there's a problem scanning the card, just show it to the driver or conductor as you normally would.
