Some young people cause anti-social problems on buses
Most of the time the thousands of young people who go to school on buses behave really well. This doesn't mean that they sit there silently like goody goodies.
But some don't behave well at all. They become a nuisance to adults and other young people. To avoid these problems, we have the following code of conduct for pupils:
- Find a seat and remain seated for the duration of the journey
- On buses, standing is only allowed if there are no seats available, but not next to the driver, on the stairs or on the top deck
- Please do not speak, stand near or distract the driver whilst the vehicle is in motion without good reason, for example, an emergency
- Behave in an orderly manner, no bullying, fighting or verbal abuse
- Anti-social behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated
- No vandalism or criminal damage – operators will, and do, prosecute
- Do not throw things inside the bus or tram, or out of the windows
- Show consideration for other passengers; remember you’re representing your school
- No smoking
- No spitting
- Don't drop your litter
- Never open the emergency exits unless there is an emergency
- When your stop is next ring the bell once, if it has already been rung do not ring it again
- Wait until the vehicle has stopped before moving to the front to get off
- If you have to cross the road after you leave the vehicle, wait until the vehicle has moved off and you can see the road is clear both ways or go to the nearest available crossing
