The Education & Safety Team work with schools, local authorities, public transport operators and South Yorkshire Police to promote safety and good behaviour on home to school transport across South Yorkshire.
Working in Junior Schools
We give pupils the chance to experience public transport for the first time and provide travel training to help children to use the buses, trams and trains safely. We also provide resources for schools to work on travel issues such as reading timetables and promoting the environmental benefits of public transport.
Working in Secondary Schools
Our positive work with secondary schools has successfully reduced anti-social behaviour on public transport. We also work alongside careers teachers to provide work experience travel options and travel advice for pupils when they finish school to go into further education or employment.
STARS Awards for schools
Through our work in schools with your local authority, we have developed the School Travel Activity Reward Scheme (STARS). These awards are presented to schools that best demonstrate a commitment to encourage good behaviour on public transport, promote sustainable travel on the home to school journey and maintain and deliver a School Travel Plan. Read the STARS page for more information on this scheme.
