Code of conduct

  • Travel code of conduct for parents, children and young people

The majority of children and young people travelling on public transport are responsible. However, the bad behaviour of a minority can cause problems for everyone.

The role of parents and carers in supporting good behaviour is very important. By applying for a travel pass, you and your child agree to comply with the following code that will ensure a safer, more enjoyable journey for everyone.

As passengers, children and young people must behave in a socially responsible way by:

    • acting in an orderly and considerate manner whilst waiting for and using public transport
    • always showing their travel pass to the driver when boarding
    • showing respect to the driver and other passengers
    • remaining seated during the journey, or if standing, not distracting the driver
    • reporting any anti-social behaviour to the driver, school or police.

    How to help your child:

    • Teach them the safest route to the bus, train or tram stop.
    • Make sure your child is on time.
    • Check that your child has the correct fare or travel pass with them at all times. If they don’t have a valid pass, they will have to pay the full fare.
