Summer adventures in South Yorkshire

Did you know that our beautiful county covers a massive 599 square miles? This means that there’s lots to see and do, and here at Travel South Yorkshire we have a few favourite places and special events we think everyone will enjoy.

August is traditionally the ‘Summer’ month with children being off school and families spending time together. We know that keeping everyone occupied can be a challenge but don’t worry, we’ve got the perfect guide for you to help make the most of the region over the next few weeks!

Why not visit one of South Yorkshire’s many green spaces and parks for a fun and affordable day out? Green Flag Awards have been given to several in the region including; Cusworth Park and Sandall Park in Doncaster, Clifton Park in Rotherham, Elsecar Park in Barnsley and The Cholera Monument and Clay Wood in Sheffield.

City park life

Here's a handy guide to Sheffield's 13 City Parks. This guide has been created to encourage locals, visitors and students to boost their mental and physical health by spending time in the stunning parks Sheffield has to offer. Created by Evoluted and Gnome Student Homes.

Little Big Changes walking

Getting on your bike as a family is fantastic way to explore the region and here in South Yorkshire we have wonderful traffic-free routes along the Transpennine Trail to enjoy. A little rusty on two wheels? We can help with lots of ways to rediscover the fun of cycling

Special Events

There are lots of special events taking place in August all over the region here are some of our favourites.

The recent Beat the Street initiative saw Barnsley become one big adventure playground in June and July. Following on from that, August will see even more opportunities to get involved in the fun. Find out the schedule on their Facebook or Twitter pages.
