Don't wait to apply!
If you are between 16 and 18, are in full time education at a school or college, and you live in South Yorkshire, you can get a Student Pass.
That means you can travel for the concessionary fare – currently 40p on buses and trams. Plus, you can also travel for half fare on Northern Rail trains in South Yorkshire.
(Read notes one and two below to check that you definitely qualify, and if you do, why not apply?)
Pick up an application form from school, college, or any Information Centre.
You can also download the 2010/11 16-18 Student Pass Application Form (PDF, 48Kb - you will need Adobe Reader or similar to view).
Take the application into any Information Centre:
- With a passport sized photograph
- Make sure your form is signed by a 'Designated Signatory' from your school. Ask your school for further details.
Alternatively;
if you are at one of the colleges listed in Section B on the form, you just need to bring the form in, and your college will verify your attendance electronically.
Your pass will be posted to your home address for the first week in September, when your new term begins.
Note one
'Aged 16-18' means that you have passed your 16th birthday and that you have not yet reached your 18th birthday on the first day of the academic year.
For this purpose, the first day of the academic year is 1 September. If you are 18 or over you need to look at Student TravelMaster instead. Ask your college's Student Services Office – or equivalent – for details.
Note two
Full time education' means a minimum of 12 hours' guided learning a week. If you don't qualify on these grounds, you can always ask your college's Student Services Office - or equivalent – for details of Student TravelMaster.
Passes are free, but if you lose yours, there will be a charge to replace it. This is currently £5.
