The English National Concession Travel Pass

ENCTS CardFrom 1 April 2008 concessionary travel became free for senior citizens and disabled people on local buses across England as well as on local buses and trams in South Yorkshire.  Free train travel has remained available for South Yorkshire concessionnaires within the established boundaries.

Who qualifies

If you live in South Yorkshire, are aged 60 and over or eligible for a disabled person's pass, you can apply for the English National Concession Travel (ENCT) Pass. 

Pass validity 

The pass will entitle its holder to free travel on local bus services anywhere in England between 0930 and 2300 on weekdays, all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays.

In South Yorkshire, the Senior Citizen ENCT pass can be used to obtain free travel from 0900 on weekdays, all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays.  Disabled Person's passes can be used for free travel all day.

How to get the pass

Getting New Pass

When applying for the first time, please visit a South Yorkshire Travel Information Centre and take with you:

  • Proof of your entitlement (for disabled people)
  • Proof of address
  • Proof of age
  • Passport size photo (if available)*

Alternatively, you can download an ENCT application form, fill it out and mail it along with the four items above to:

*We have recently introduced a photo capturing facility at our Travel Information Centres. If you apply in person and do not bring a passport size photograph, our staff will be happy to take a picture of you free of charge with a web camera.

Renewing Expired Pass

If your pass has expired or is due to expire, you can request a renewal by visiting a Travel Information Centre or phoning Traveline on 01709 51 51 51 up to a month before the expiry date.

Please note that if you are renewing a disabled pass, we may need to refer you to your local District Council for confirmation of your continuous entitlement.

If your appearance has significantly changed since your last pass was issued we recommend that you provide a new photograph or visit an Information Centre to have your photograph taken.
